Dynamic

In Public

The two have a very soft and gentle dynamic. They're both typically polite and formal with others, and that formality sort of extends to one another as well, but there are subtle shows of affection behind them. For example, whenever Barbatos offers his hand out to Lunaliya, he always gives her fingers a gentle squeeze. Or whenever Lunaliya would pass on a message to Barbatos, she would look at him with a soft gaze that she wouldn't give to anyone else.

While the two don't engage much in PDA, when alone with Diavolo, any of the seven brothers, and/ or with the residents of Purgatory Hall, Barbatos would tease Lunaliya by being more openly affectionate and shamelessly flirt with her.

In Private

When alone, Barbatos becomes much more teasing with her, and they become a bit more playful with each other. While they still have a certain "politeness" to them (due to the mutual respect they have for one another), they allow themselves to relax when alone together and show sides of themselves that they typically wouldn't show anybody else.

Story

First Meeting

Lunaliya was chosen as one of the primary representatives for the Celestial Realm as Diavolo planned out the details for the exchange program. Her duty was to provide insight as a resident of the Celestial Realm and what an angel might need to be able to live comfortably in the Devildom for the year.

As the chosen representative, Lunaliya visited the Demon Lord's castle to introduce herself and begin discussions with Diavolo. As Diavolo's butler, Barbatos was the one to greet and guide her. Their first interaction was brief, cordial, and strictly business, but Barbatos did secretly size her up to get a feel for her as is his duty to make sure no suspicious people get too close to his liege. He was also curious as to why Michael decided to choose her out of all the angels as the Celestial Realm's representative.

Barbatos Develops Feelings

Since the exchange program would take time to plan out and finalize, Lunaliya would often visit the castle and have meetings with Diavolo (and sometimes Lucifer). With each meeting, Barbatos would always greet her. They would engage in some small talk while waiting for the meetings to start, and Barbatos quickly found himself being drawn to Lunaliya. He found her intriguing and wished to know more about her.

Diavolo quickly noticed the changes in Barbatos' behaviour and easily deduced that it was because he had a crush on Lunaliya. Barbatos did not deny it, admitting that he was indeed fascinated by her.

Hearing that, Diavolo privately contacted Michael and requested that Lunaliya stay in the castle. He wanted an excuse to have Barbatos and Lunaliya spend more time together, and not just because of meetings for the exchange program. Diavolo wanted an excuse to bring the two closer together. Barbatos was aware of Diavolo's plan but did not oppose it.

Lunaliya Resides in the Castle

At Michael's orders, Lunaliya went to the Demon Lord's castle to temporarily live there. Barbatos led her to her bedroom which he took care in preparing beforehand. He then gave her a tour of most of the castle. Later at night, Lunaliya received a text from Barbatos, saying how surreal it was that she felt so much closer now, much to her confusion.

As Lunaliya was a guest, Barbatos treated her as such. She was fine with this kind of treatment for the first few days, but eventually, she started to feel guilty as it made her feel like she was freeloading. She would start helping out around the castle which often caused minor arguments between her and Barbatos as he insisted that he could not allow a guest to do his work.

Eventually, Diavolo stepped in and came up with the compromise that Lunaliya would be treated and seen as a "resident" of the castle and not as a "guest" to help alleviate her guilt and allow her to do whatever she wanted around the castle (which included helping Barbatos with his duties).

As time passed, Barbatos and Lunaliya got to know more about each other and grew close. Barbatos' feelings for her only grew stronger.

Barbatos Discovers Lunaliya's Past

Most of the details and planning for the exchange program were done. One of the items left on the list was deciding which humans and angels would be admitted into the program. Diavolo had called Lunaliya over and requested that she participate as she was once a human and now an angel, so she could provide some insight from "both sides", but she refused. Barbatos ended up overhearing this conversation and texted Lunaliya to ask if her being a human once was true. She replied with a text saying she wasn't comfortable talking about it via text messages but wouldn't mind telling him if he went to see her.

Barbatos found Lunaliya in the garden, and she was surprised that he actually came. As promised, she revealed the truth that she was originally a human but ended up in an accident to save her friend. Her friend happened to be Lilith who begged her father to save Lunaliya from her suffering. Lunaliya then became an angel and looked after by Lilith and her brothers before eventually coming to work underneath Michael.

Barbatos appreciated Lunaliya for disclosing such information with him, and she responded that it was because she trusted him.

The Exchange Program Begins

The students for the exchange program are brought to the Devildom, and their year there begins. Barbatos accompanied Lunaliya as visited Purgatory Hall to greet Simeon and Luke who she was friends with. The three of them caught up with one another as Barbatos quietly stood off to the side, ready to serve them. Simeon immediately noticed the way Barbatos looked at Lunaliya but did not comment on it.

As days passed by, Simeon and Luke quickly became aware of Barbatos' feelings for Lunaliya. Luke confronted Barbatos about it, but nothing came of it. As Simeon and Luke saw more of Barbatos' and Lunaliya's interactions, they realized that Lunaliya returned his feelings but was't aware of it herself. Simeon discreetly tried to get Lunaliya to realize her feelings but to no avail.

Lunaliya Gets Injured

Lunaliya, Luke, and Simeon were exploring the Devildom when they were attacked by lower level demons. Lunaliya protected Luke, getting injured in the process. As they brought her back to the castle, Simeon texted Barbatos about her injury so that he could be prepared to treat her once they arrived. Barbatos was able to successfully heal most of Lunaliya's injuries, but he recommended that she stay in bed for a while.

With not much to do while bedridden, Lunaliya was left alone with her thoughts more often, and she found her thoughts almost always going to Barbatos. Realization dawned on her, and she became embarrassed.

Barbatos noticed that Lunaliya had become more self-conscious around him and came to the conclusion that she loved him back. He decided not to confess, however, but became much more bold and teased her more often. As Lunaliya wasn't aware that Barbatos loved her back, she constantly chided him not to make such jokes as it could cause misunderstandings.

Confession

Fully recovered, Lunaliya goes to Simeon to ask for help on what she should do about her feelings towards Barbatos. She was afraid if he would even consider accepting her as a romantic partner when she was an angel while he was a demon. He assured her that it should be fine and encouraged her to confess.

Lunaliya decided to confess by writing a love letter as she was too afraid to confess directly. After writing her letter, she steeled herself and stood in front of Barbatos' room, debating as to whether she should slip the letter underneath his door or give it to him directly. While she was debating, Barbatos came down from the hall and noticed her.

Left with no choice, Lunaliya gave the letter to him. Judging by the way she was acting, Barbatos could guess what the letter was about and asked if he could open it to read it now. She nodded her head and waited as he read it but refused to look at his face and see what his reaction was. Once Barbatos was finished, he called Lunaliya's name to get her attention.

He made sure that she was watching as he kissed the letter and told her that he was grateful for her heartfelt letter and confessed to being overjoyed that she felt the same way he felt about her.

First Date

After establishing that their feelings were mutual, Barbatos invited Lunaliya on a date to the Devil Planetarium and dinner, to which she happily accepted. A few days later, Lunaliya went to the House of Lamentation to ask Asmodeus for help in preparing for her first date with Barbatos. They went shopping and bought a new dress for her to wear. On the date of, Asmodeus helped Lunaliya with her makeup and hair, putting it up into a bun with floral accessories.

As per Lunaliya's request, Barbatos waited for her at the entrance of the Demon Lord's castle to keep her appearance a surprise. He complimented her appearance, making her blush, before holding his arm out to escort her.

At the Devil Planetarium, Lunaliya was excited for the program to start. Barbatos gave a brief overview of what the program would entail, having researched it before, and admitted that he chose the planetarium for their date as he knew how much she loved stars and figured she would enjoy it.

After the show at the planetarium, Barbatos led Lunaliya to Ristorante Six for dinner. She was nervous to be dining at such a high-class restaurant, but Barbatos helped ease her worries by bringing her thoughts away to talk about the planetarium show. At some point in their conversation, Barbatos reached out to gently hold Lunaliya's hand, embarrassing her, but she did not pull away.

During their meal, Simeon and Solomon happened to come across them. They noticed the way the couple was holding hands and immediately figured out that they were on a date. The two apologized for disrupting their date and excused themselves.

When they finished eating, Barbatos brought them back to the castle and led Lunaliya back to her room. She thanked him for the wonderful date, and he kissed the corner of her mouth before bidding her good night.

First Night

Diavolo had hosted a party. As Diavolo's butler, Barbatos was tasked with cleaning up. Feeling bad for him, Lunaliya insisted that she help out. Once everything was cleaned up and put away, Barbatos wanted to repay Lunaliya for her help and offered to serve her completely for the rest of the night, but she refused, saying that he had worked more than enough already and just wanted him to relax.

Barbatos assured her that he still had more than enough energy, and being able to spoil her was something he found relaxing. At a complete loss, Lunaliya conceded and allowed Barbatos to do as he wished. Satisfied, he picked her up and princess-carried her to her bedroom, much to her embarrassment.

Barbatos offered to help Lunaliya change out of her clothes, promising that he would keep his eyes closed if she was uncomfortable with the idea of him seeing her. She agreed. As promised, Barbatos kept his eyes closed as he slowly removed Lunaliya's outfit, but his touches and the way his fingers brushed over her skin were sensual. Having enough, Lunaliya asked if that was what Barbatos wanted. He answered that it was, but only if she wanted it too.

After voicing their mutual desire and consent, they embraced one another.

Making a Covenant

Barbatos and Lunaliya were strolling through the castle gardens when Barbatos brought up the idea of forming a covenant with her. Covenants are similar to a pact with a demon except for angels. Unlike pacts which can only be formed between a demon and human, covenants can be formed by an angel with any race, but it is extremely rare due to the intimacy of it.

Lunaliya was hesitant and asked if she could have some time to think about it. She consulted with Simeon and Luke who were both surprised that Barbatos would want to make a covenant at all. They offered words of comfort and encouragement, and Lunaliya decided to accept.

A few days later, Lunaliya invited Barbatos to her room to make the covenant by intertwining their hands together. Lunaliya received a mark on her inner right wrist while Barbatos received one on the back of his left hand after the covenant was successfully formed.

Love Language

Barbatos

Barbatos' love language is acts of service (to show love) and quality time (to feel loved). He enjoys being able to do things for Lunaliya and making her life easier. He takes pride in his job as a butler, so it's no surprise that he also enjoys being able to serve her. He's very attentive to her wants and needs and is almost always ready to provide them before she's even aware of it.

His favourite things to do for her are: comb her hair, get her dressed, and cook for her. He likes the feeling of her hair and finds himself growing soft whenever she relaxes and melts underneath his ministrations, sometimes to the point of almost falling asleep. That sense of trust she has in allowing herself to become vulnerable around him makes his heart flutter. The same applies in helping her get dressed.

Barbatos enjoys cooking and baking, especially moreso if it's for Lunaliya. She generally holds herself back when eating, but she's very fond of food, so Barbatos wants to give her that enjoyment. He always feels his heart swell with pride and joy whenever he sees how much Lunaliya savours and appreciates his food.

As a demon with the power to see both the past and future, he enjoys spending time alone with Lunaliya. It is when he's with her that he can truly appreciate "time" as it is and live in the present. Even if they're doing nothing particularly special or not talking about anything, Barbatos appreciates her presence by his side. He has been around for a very long time, so he feels fortunate to have someone with him to finally fill that emptiness.

Lunaliya

Lunaliya's love language is gift giving (to show love) and acts of service (to feel loved). She enjoys giving Barbatos various kinds of gifts. They're usually small ones, but they all carry the same sweet sentiment. She's often thinking of him, and she wants to give those thoughts of him physical form, so they usually manifest as a gift of sorts. She gets a fluttery feeling in her chest whenever she sees that Barbatos likes her gift. To her, it means that she knows him well enough to know what he likes and/ or needs.

While she doesn't expect Barbatos to give her gifts as often as she does him, it fills her with joy every time he does. His gifts are always chosen with great care and with her in mind. It makes her happy to know that he was thinking of her at that moment he chose a gift.

Admittedly, Barbatos initially felt burdened by Lunaliya's gifts, but after learning that it was her way of showing her affection for him, he started to appreciate her gifts more. There's a certain section of his room used to only hold and/or display all of the gifts she has given him. His favourite gifts of hers are the rare tea blends. He always brews it for himself whenever they spend time together.

Because of the past she's had, Lunaliya feels loved whenever somebody does something for her. As such, she can't help but get all happy whenever Barbatos serves her because, despite it being his job, she knows that he's doing it not because it's his job, but because he wants to. That being said, she does feel a sense of guilt every now and then whenever Barbatos spoils her, so she usually tries to return the favour.

Public Opinion

The number of people who know of the two's relationship is far and few in between. The reason for this is because Barbatos doesn't know how the other demons would react to him being together with an angel. There's a lot at stake (i.e. Lunaliya's safety, Diavolo's reputation, etc.), so while they don't necessarily hide it, they don't go out of their way to have their relationship completely on display.

Of the few people who are aware of their relationship, they are either indifferent or supportive.

Diavolo

Diavolo is wholly supportive of the relationship between Barbatos and Lunaliya. He's probably their biggest supporter, often going out of his way to give the two some time alone together. He thinks that the two make a really great couple and match each other well. He's happy to see Barbatos finally taking time for himself and enjoying himself, and Diavolo is grateful to Lunaliya for the positive influences she's had on Barbatos.

Lucifer

Knowing Lunaliya well during their time in the Celestial Realm, Lucifer was unsurprised to learn that she held feelings for Barbatos (who fit her type). He was, however, surprised to learn that Barbatos felt the same way towards her. He isn't sure how he feels about their relationship. He's happy for them and wishes them the best, but a part of him has doubts as to how a relationship between an angel and demon would work out.

The Other Brothers

They were completely surprised when they found out about the relationship but were otherwise supportive. They think that Barbatos and Lunaliya make a cute couple, but they sometimes act too sickeningly sweet for their liking. They often (jokingly) tell the two to get a room, even if the aren't necessarily flirting with each other.

Trivia/ Headcanons

Lunaliya is often trying to tease Barbatos, but because she's easy to tease/ embarrass, it usually backfires on her.
- She once tried to tease Barbatos for staring at her. Barbatos responded that it was only natural since she was "so beautiful", which resulted in her getting embarrassed.
For quite a while, there was a misunderstanding between the two as Barbatos had thought Lunaliya disliked his tea since she would always refuse his offers for it, and he was saddened by it. He later found out that she simply disliked tea in general.
Barbatos often teases Lunaliya by calling her "my lady."
When asked what her favourite thing about Barbatos was, Lunaliya responded "his consideration."
